I have always wanted to be involved in a caring profession and in 1994 I came to Kitchener Waterloo to pursue a degree in music therapy and psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University. During this time I worked in several community living associations caring for individuals with physical and developmental challenges. The philosophy of woman-centered care, that is one of the principles of midwifery, was very appealing to me, and kept inspiring me to pursue midwifery as a profession.
I completed my midwifery training at McMaster University, graduating in 2007 with a BHSc in midwifery. My clinical experiences during placements in the midwifery education programme were primarily in the KW area. These included over a hundred home and hospital births alongside registered midwives, in rural and urban settings. I also completed a series of one month community placements working with an obstetrician in Guelph, an obstetrical nurse in Cambridge, a Lactation Consultant and in the NICU at Grand River Hospital. The knowledge gained from the midwives, physicians, nurses, and most importantly from the women was invaluable to my education as a midwife.
In my spare time you might find me biking with my children and husband, organizing and participating in community events, or camping across the Bruce Peninsula.
